Tunisian Island of Djerba is still covered with olive trees and flowers, the island's residents are worried about the island.\u003cbr/\u003eThey say the intrusion of tourism is threatening their traditional way of life and is contributing to the gradual destruction of Djerba's natural beauty. \u003cbr/\u003eDjerba's  614 square kilometres are green and filled with natural beauty. \u003cbr/\u003eSituated off the southern coast of Tunisia, the island has changed less than other parts of the country. \u003cbr/\u003eThere are 700,000 olive trees, some over 3,000 years old. many centuries agriculture was the main way of life, but this is changing.\u003cbr/\u003eRabia'a Ouerimi, an English teacher, says that the lack of water and a young generation who don't want to work on the land, means there is little farming here now. \u003cbr/\u003eWater has to be brought in from the mainland through pipes that run along the old Roman causeway.\u003cbr/\u003eBut agriculture and its dependence on water is only part of the Djerbian environment.\u003cbr/\u003eFerid El Cadi, Honorary President of the Association to safeguard Djerba says \"the most important environmental elements on Djerba are nature, customs and traditions and the landscape.\" \u003cbr/\u003ePot making is a traditional art that has allowed food, water and other items to be stored for centuries. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the arrival of plastic has transformed a once vibrant industry into a dying art. \u003cbr/\u003ePotter Adel Sagal says that the number of ovens and factories has fallen dramatically in recent years.\u003cbr/\u003eThe islands boasts an impressive array of flora and fauna. \u003cbr/\u003eBut some local residents claim that this biodiversity is under threat from tourism. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Taha Bouchadar, committee member of the Association for Safeguarding Djerba says that warnings about too much building for tourism have been ignored. \u003cbr/\u003eKhelil
