People leaving the building\u003cbr/\u003eThousands of foreigners fled the unrest in Egypt, boarding special flights home or to nearby Mediterranean airports amid scenes of chaos at Cairo's international airport. \u003cbr/\u003eNew York-based Pamela Huyser, who had travelled to Egypt for a conference, arrived in Larnaca, Cyprus, late on Monday. \u003cbr/\u003eShe described the violent scene she witnessed from her ninth-floor hotel balcony in Cairo.\u003cbr/\u003e\"You cannot even believe what we saw,\" she said. \"We saw people looting, we saw gunfire, people shooting other people.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAnother tourist said she was tore down her children's beds to give wood to groups of people guarding her hotel from looters.\u003cbr/\u003eOne man said that despite the chaos, he had felt safe. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The people on the city were very kind to us and most of them were telling us, 'you know, we're not out to hurt you, we're trying to cause you problems' and they were very apologetic,\" said Chris Upton.\u003cbr/\u003eThe US State Department said it had evacuated more than 1,200 Americans aboard government-chartered planes and expects to fly out roughly 1,400 more in the coming days.    \u003cbr/\u003eState Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said that by the end of Monday six planes will have flown nine flights ferrying US citizens from Cairo to Larnaca;  Athens, Greece; and Istanbul, Turkey.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier, a US military plane landed in Lanarca with 42 people - mostly staff at US embassies in Africa and elsewhere who had also travelled to Egypt for a conference.\u003cbr/\u003eAdditional flights were also being
