Musicians playing music\u003cbr/\u003eThe festival of San Pedro Parranda has been celebrated in the towns of Guarenas and Guatire for centuries on the 29th of June and once again people gathered on Sunday to mark the festive day.\u003cbr/\u003eThe popular story says the celebration originated in the 19th century, though other historians dated back to colonial times, when the daughter of a slave, Maria Ignacia, became sick.\u003cbr/\u003eShe promised San Pedro (Saint Peter) she would do a procession in his honour if he cured her.\u003cbr/\u003eChristians believe the girl was cured and Maria Ignacio started to sing and dance in the town with her daughter thanking San Pedro for the healing of her daughter. \u003cbr/\u003eThe tradition says that year after year that, Maria Ignacia repeated the ritual, and after she died, her husband continued maintaining the ritual, which is the reasoning behind the man disguising himself as the woman, as this year's Ignacia explains.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Maria Ignacia was sick, and asked her husband to take her place (in the celebration of Saint Peter), so the husband took her place dressing like a woman, and for that reason there is a man who dresses like a woman,\" Raul Gonzalez said adding he was proud to take on the role for the first time.\u003cbr/\u003eThe San Pedro Parranda celebration starts on June 28th with songs and dances that go on into the early hours of the morning.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the main dance, there are the San Pedrenos, men with their faces painted in black who dance making strong sounds with their shoes against the pavement. \u003cbr/\u003eThere is also the Tucusitos, a couple of children with ample trousers and colourful hats, a Maria Ignacia, always played by a man who carries in his hands a doll, representing Maria Ignacia's daughter. \u003cbr/\u003eOne local resident, Miguel Ugueto said that the community continued to celebrate the festival every year for two reasons.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's a celebration which we participate in because we believe that, it's an even mix between religion and tradition. I believe that it's possible,  through the faith, to achieve what we wish,\" he added.  \u003cbr/\u003eOn the following day a mass is given to honour the saint and then the statue is carried in a
