Exterior hotel\u003cbr/\u003eA group of French tourists missing in Ethiopia since Thursday arrived in Mekele, the Afar region's capital, on Sunday and said they had not been kidnapped, as was previously believed. \u003cbr/\u003eThe group had been travelling near the same remote northeast region - 800 kilometres (500 miles) northeast of the capital, Addis Ababa - where five Britons went missing last Thursday.\u003cbr/\u003eCommunications to Afar are extremely difficult, but the otherworldly, moonlike landscape draws adventure travellers.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the tourists, who refused to give his name, said the group simply did not have a satellite phone to call the tour organiser, and that it had not been in any danger.\u003cbr/\u003eSelam Ali, the tour operator with the group, said they had left the region and headed to Makele.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There was no problem, nothing happened as regards health or security whatsoever, as you can see the group is safe now with me in News Agency said late on Saturday that five of the 13 Ethiopians in the tour group were found near the border with Eritrea, but it was not clear whether they had escaped or were released\u003cbr/\u003eRelations between Ethiopia and Eritrea have been consistently strained since Eritrea gained independence from the Addis Ababa government in 1993 following a 30-year guerrilla war.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Eritrean Information Ministry on Sunday denied claims by senior Ethiopian officials that Eritrean commandoes seized the
