Pan from street performance to children watching\u003cbr/\u003ePuppeteers from across the world travelled to the town Charleville-Mezieres, in the Champagne-Ardenne region of eastern France recently to take part in a world famous celebration of puppets. \u003cbr/\u003eOnce every three years the town of Charleville, 250 kilometres (155 miles) north east of Paris hosts the prestigious International Puppet Festival \u003cbr/\u003e(September 15-24). \u003cbr/\u003eChristophe Milhau is part of the organising team.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says that this year there were more than 150 different participants and more than 750 performances. \u003cbr/\u003eMilhau says that puppets are no longer just for children and many of their audiences are filled with adults. \u003cbr/\u003eThe black humour of shows like \"Rust\", performed by the British company, 'Green Ginger' appeals more to adults than children. \u003cbr/\u003eChris Pirie, a member of 'Green Ginger', gives a description of a performance that adults may not want younger viewers to see. \u003cbr/\u003eAlthough the group is celebrating twenty five years of performing its shows all over the world, they show no sign of growing up and the performance is full of absurd humour. \u003cbr/\u003eThe use of grotesque puppets and animated sets mean this is a high budget puppet show.\u003cbr/\u003ePirie says anything that can be moved in an animating way to tell a story, qualifies as a puppet \u003cbr/\u003eHe says that this is the most important puppet festival in the world and a great place to showcase a new performance. \u003cbr/\u003eSome of the overseas visitors are equally enthusiastic. \u003cbr/\u003eThe International Puppet Festival of  Charleville Mezieres is organised by the association \"Les petits comediens de Chiffons\" (the small actors of cloth). \u003cbr/\u003eThe event has taken place in the town once every three years since 1961.
