Assorted shots of band rotating at the end of the show\u003cbr/\u003eFlic Flac is Germany's most popular modern circus show and if audience numbers are anything to go by, it is helping revitalise a form of entertainment long overdue for an overhaul. \u003cbr/\u003eGone are the clowns, the circus masters and the sad animal acts. In their place come the cream of the European acrobatic world, complete with state of the art lighting, a 10,200-watt Bose sound system with Dolby sorround and a conspicuous lack of safety nets.\u003cbr/\u003eFlic Flac is the face of modern circus, or so say the German fans, who have voted with their feet, making it the most popular circus spectacle in the country. \u003cbr/\u003eNo mean feat, when you consider Germany is the centre of European circus with a population that still faithfully go to see live shows. \u003cbr/\u003eFlic Flac, like many of its imitators has taken the central core of traditional circus entertainment, stripped of its old circus trappings and added the new ingredients of state of the art sound and lighting and a vibrant and often death-defying line up of young performing talent. \u003cbr/\u003eThe result is a less traditional but faster paced spectacle that uses a theme, in this case a virus, to hold the whole show together. And as the artists themselves concede, the recipe works.\u003cbr/\u003e\"All the character of the circus is different to the other places, \" says Claudia Bremlov. \"It is much more modern; the people in it don't have traditional costumes, the music is different, everything, and is a little bit more hardcore, some people think it is.\" \u003cbr/\u003eGilles Antares adds: \"Well I have nothing more to say, that's it, but I mean it's different because the audience themselves are different. They come to see Flic Flac, they know it is a completely different show than the usual traditional circus and all the public are playing together with the show, so it makes a lot of difference.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDespite the vast multicultural workforce in Flic Flac, it remains a very German circus and until now has only toured in Germany and other select European countries, a fact the artists put down to the simple demand that exists at home for the show.\u003cbr/\u003eGilles Antares explains: \"The German people like to enjoy themselves, not especially at the circus, but in everything, cabaret, variety. about Flic Flac is the quality of the acts that the circus chooses; unlike conventional circus, the acts are not permanent and this allows the shows to pick the cream of available talent in Europe to grace their stage. \u003cbr/\u003eThe result is that Flic Flac attracts acts like Quader and Airplane that choose to work at heights of 17 metres risking their lives every night without safety equipment to give the audience the maximum thrills, as artist Gilles explains.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This tent is 17 metres high and normally in a traditional circus they are between 10 and 12 metres high,\" says Gilles Antares. \"Here it is 17 metres and we work without a safety rope or net; so that makes the difference, because few artists want to work without safety equipment and therefore we are here\".\u003cbr/\u003eFlic Flac will continue to tour in Germany up until Xmas and there are tentative plans to tour outside the republic in
