They should be increasing the interest rates to stop inflation, but they can't because they are afraid that the markets will collapse with an increased rate of interest because you won't be able to pay the debts. It boils down basically that the US dollar is, to be honest, on its last legs as the central reserve currency.  More and more are moving to euros but this is also a fake because the amount of euros that are being produced mean we have a very bad problem in Spain with their property market - they're in the same sort of dilemma as the Americans. The English are also in a dilemma so basically all feared currencies, feared as in feared 'lux let there be light', feared money, 'let there be money' are going to the wall basically.\"\u003cbr/\u003e6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Rolf Birnbaum, analyst and investor relations consultant, GPMT Aktiengesellschaft \u003cbr/\u003eChina has built up a very high level of dollar reserves and they are trying to diversify out of this, and buying more and more commodities come what may, from  aluminium to zinc, from apples to sugar, because they don't see any value in the dollar any more, but they also have a problem they want to export so they have to keep the dollar, because if they start selling all their dollars, the dollar is going to collapse. I mean most people look at the dollar against their own currency... the British are feeling good at the moment because you have got the British pound going up  against the dollar, but it's losing value against the euro. If you have a look at the dollar - which is a better way of looking at it -  the dollar index, I mean this chart is a screaming sell.\"\u003cbr/\u003e8. Birnbaum at work\u003cbr/\u003eThe euro slid lower against the U.S. dollar in trading on Friday, backing off the record high it had reached the day before, allaying slightly European concerns that its strength was becoming harmful.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 15-nation currency bought 1.5830 US dollars in early afternoon European trading, below the 1.5888 US dollars it bought in late trading in New York the night before. \u003cbr/\u003eThat was more than a cent off the all-time high of 1.5982 US dollars it set on Thursday, as the euro zone grappled with rising inflation that has all but guaranteed no interest rate cuts by the European Central Bank.\u003cbr/\u003eThe currency's previous record was the 1.5978 US dollars it fetched Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eAs the euro gets stronger, it is causing some concern among companies and politicians in countries that use it, particularly fears it could dampen exports as European goods become more expensive to American buyers.\u003cbr/\u003eSome experts are even predicting that car and aviation companies could start moving their manufacturing operations to the U.S. to avoid the high euro and take advantage of the weak dollar.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dollar has been weighed down by a combination of gloomy U.S. economic data and high European inflation - fuelling expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will continue cutting its interest rates, while the ECB will leave the cost of borrowing unchanged at 4 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eLower interest rates can weigh on a nation's currency as traders transfer funds to countries where they can earn better
