People in shopping mall\u003cbr/\u003eThe long, flowing black dress traditionally worn by Muslim women across the Arabian peninsular is undergoing a quiet revolution.\u003cbr/\u003eRather than continuing to sport the plain, loose garment known as the abaya, women from wealthy Gulf countries are adapting their outdoor wear into something far more eye-catching.\u003cbr/\u003eModern versions of the abaya continue to preserve an Islamic sense of modesty, but feature sparkling crystal beads, lavish embroidery and radical cuts.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd as the styles change, the cost of abayas is climbing.\u003cbr/\u003eLuxury crepe material and gems produced by the cutglass maker Swarovski are all the rage.\u003cbr/\u003eAs a whole fashion industry is being built around changing tastes, manufacturers, shop owners and designers are the first to cash in on new trends. Business is booming.\u003cbr/\u003eLocal Aida Al Busaidy likes her clothes to be as fashionable as possible, and shops at the city's latest retail complex.\u003cbr/\u003eGroups of abaya-wearing women at a Dubai shopping mall are likely to be carrying equally expensive accessories, such as handbags made by designers Luis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel.\u003cbr/\u003eAlong with the abaya, the region's Muslim women wear a headscarf, or shaila.
