Kallenbach.\u003cbr/\u003eJoseph Lelyveld said after reading letters sent between Kallenbach and Gandhi, he believes \"they were in a celibate relationship.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough not out yet in India, \"Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi and His Struggle With India\" has been banned by the western Indian state of Gujarat after reviews of Lelyveld's book suggested Gandhi had a homosexual relationship with Kallenbach.\u003cbr/\u003eThe book examines Gandhi's struggle for social justice and the evolution of his social values.\u003cbr/\u003eFurther bans have been proposed in India, where homosexuality was illegal until 2009 and still carries social stigma.\u003cbr/\u003eLelyveld has said that his work does not allege Gandhi was gay or bisexual, claiming the book is being misinterpreted.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen asked what he would like to say to Narendra Modi, the Gujarat Chief Minister, Lelyveld said he would ask the Minister to \"read the book.\"\u003cbr/\u003eLelyveld, a
