ordered an inquiry into television footage that purportedly showed US soldiers burning the bodies to taunt other militants. \u003cbr/\u003eThe US military also launched an investigation.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking in Kabul on Friday, Karzai urged Afghans not to let the incident mar their impression of the United States, saying mistakes happened in war.\u003cbr/\u003eHe demanded that an investigation \"into this violation be carried out very effectively and very quickly\".\u003cbr/\u003eHis apparent attempt to reduce Afghans' anger over the alleged desecration of the bodies came amid warnings by Islamic clerics of a possible violent anti-American backlash.\u003cbr/\u003eCremating bodies is banned under Islam.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Anyone who conducts this kind of the local media have reported on it, many Afghans are still not aware of it.\u003cbr/\u003eThe May riots erupted after Newsweek magazine claimed US soldiers at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility desecrated Islam's holy book, the Quran. \u003cbr/\u003eNewsweek later retracted the story.\u003cbr/\u003eWorried about the potential for anti-American feelings over the incident, the US State
