Wide of flood victims outside the WFP distribution point \u003cbr/\u003eAround 150-thousand people have been forced to move to higher ground for safety as floodwaters from a freshly swollen Indus River submerged dozens more towns and villages in southern Pakistan on Saturday.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the southern Sindh province, 600-thousand people have set-up relief camps as a result of flooding over the past month.\u003cbr/\u003eThe waters have washed away houses, roads and crops and smashed key communication and transport infrastructures.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I prefer to die, it is better than surviving. river torrents empty into the Arabian Sea. \u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations Food Programme's Pakistan country director, Wolfgang Herbinger, said on Saturday that the programme needs at least 40 more helicopters to reach the large number of people cut off by the flooding.\u003cbr/\u003eThe floods have affected about one-fifth of Pakistan's territory, straining its civilian government as it also struggles against al-Qaida and Taliban violence.\u003cbr/\u003eAt least 8 (m) million people are in need of water, shelter or other emergency assistance, making the disaster larger than Pakistan's last two humanitarian crises, the exodus from Swat last year amid an army offensive against the Taliban and the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.\u003cbr/\u003eThe floods are predicted to shave at least 1 percent of Pakistan's gross national product this year, in large part because of their effect on the country's agricultural sector, which accounts for about 20 percent of the economy. \u003cbr/\u003eThe country's textile industry is also expected to suffer because of damage to cotton crops.\u003cbr/\u003eAlready, the prices of vegetables, meat and dairy products have risen sharply across the country.\u003cbr/\u003eIn parts of Punjab province, people were scrambling after aid parcels dropped from a helicopter on Saturday.\u003cbr/\u003eSome of the foreign aid that arrived in Pakistan on Saturday came on a plane from the Uzbekistan.\u003cbr/\u003eThe aid arrived on an Uzbek government plane that landed at Chaklala airbase in Rawalpindi.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile in Dera Ismail Khan the United Nations World Food Programme distributed food aid to those in desperate need.\u003cbr/\u003eThe floods began in the northwest, hitting the Swat Valley and areas close to the main city of Peshawar, before moving down the country by way of the mighty River Indus, devastating (m) millions of acres (hectares) of crops in the country's \"breadbasket\" in Punjab and the Sindh.\u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations has appealed for 460 (m) million US dollars in emergency assistance, and the US has promised 150 (m) million US dollars. \u003cbr/\u003ePakistan said it would even accept 5 (m) million dollars in aid from India, its archrival.\u003cbr/\u003eA slew of aid groups have been trying to help the government in its relief effort by providing food, medicine, shelter
