Cutaway Bellinger with reporter\u003cbr/\u003eThe legal advisor to the US State Department says an investigation into the suicides of two Saudis and one Yemeni at Guantanamo prison last weekend will focus on how the three detainees could have killed themselves when authorities were aware that some of them had tried to take their own lives in the past. \u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at the US Embassy in Paris, John Bellinger also said that US President George W. Bush is aware of the mounting criticism of Guantanamo and that his administration is working very hard to do something about it. \u003cbr/\u003eBut Bellinger said that the US \"can't simply close Guantanamo, as something needs to be done with the people that are there.\" \u003cbr/\u003eHe also said that despite its best efforts, the US could not convince many countries to repatriate prisoners from the US-run military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.\u003cbr/\u003eMilitary officials said the suicides were coordinated acts of protest, but human rights activists and defence lawyers said the deaths signalled the desperation of many of the 460 detainees held on suspicion of links to al-Qaida and the Taliban.\u003cbr/\u003eOnly 10 detainees have been charged with crimes after more than four years behind bars. \u003cbr/\u003eThe US Supreme Court is expected to rule this month on whether President Bush overstepped his power in setting up war crimes trials for those detainees. \u003cbr/\u003eThe administration's controversial detentions at Guantanamo are a point of contention between the United States and many of its allies in Europe and the Middle East, and the suicides renewed international pressure to shut the prison. \u003cbr/\u003eThe European Union on Monday called the Guantanamo Bay detention centre an \"anomaly,\" and said it would urge Bush to shut it down when he travels to Europe for a trans-Atlantic summit next week. \u003cbr/\u003eBellinger said it was unlikely that President Bush was going to shut Guantanamo Bay down
