powered generators.\u003cbr/\u003eChina released a key policy paper on Wednesday outlining its long-standing position that developed countries should shoulder the historic burden of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, that are chiefly responsible for causing a rise in global temperatures.\u003cbr/\u003eChina would do its part by reducing emissions, developing renewable energy, and focusing on energy conservation, the paper said.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to experts, the country had become the world's biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, produced from coal combustion among other pollutants.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, China made it clear it expects rich nations to promote international technology cooperation and transfer, and provide financial and technological support to developing countries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe policy paper was released ahead of an international conference on climate change next month in Beijing, organised by the UN and the Chinese government, to promote transfer of international green technology.\u003cbr/\u003eNegotiations continue on a successor to the UN-sponsored Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.\u003cbr/\u003eA major UN climate change conference in December 2008 in the Polish city of Poznan was scheduled to include delegates from more than 190 countries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe United States rejected the Kyoto accord, arguing it would harm American business and made no comparable demands on emerging economies.\u003cbr/\u003eChina, India and other large developing countries signed the accord but refused to
