It does not make us happy because I was born in Kosovo and became an athlete in Kosovo and have enjoyed the greatest support in Kosovo,\" Kelmendi said minutes after receiving the news from Kosovo officials. \u003cbr/\u003e\"But, finally, we are all Albanians. It is good that I can at least compete for Albania. Not like my coach, who was unlucky not to go at all.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHer coach, Toni Kuka missed out on Olympics because of the violent break-up of former Yugoslavia in the 1990s.\u003cbr/\u003eKosovo seceded from Serbia in 2008 but Serbia rejects the move.\u003cbr/\u003eRussia backs Serbia's rejection of Kosovo status, while the United States and most countries in the European Union have recognised the breakaway province as a state.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This is nothing more that just politics,\" Kelmendi said in Pristina.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There are many states that do not support and do not want Kosovo. Unfortunately Kosovo is a small country and maybe not that strong politically for the time being and it is not strong enough to influence some things,\" she added\u003cbr/\u003eSince the end of the 1998-99 war, little has improved for athletes from Kosovo  and they still struggle for international representation as Serbia, backed by Russia, has threatened to thwart Kosovo's attempts to gain diplomatic recognition.\u003cbr/\u003eAt bodies such as the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Council of Europe, which operate by consensus, it takes just a single member state to veto Kosovo's independence.\u003cbr/\u003eSo far, 90 countries have recognised Kosovo as a state.\u003cbr/\u003e1.
