Close up of Cehajic holding Mediha\u003cbr/\u003eAjsa Hajdarevic was born with severe brain and intestinal problems.\u003cbr/\u003eHer parents have been fighting to save her ever since -- not only battling her ailments, but Bosnia's broken health care system as well.\u003cbr/\u003eShe needs careful medical attention -- machines to ensure that her brain gets enough oxygen, for example. And she had life-saving stomach surgery in Germany in August. The equipment and the operation were paid for with the help of a campaigning broadcaster. Ajsa is alive, says her father Edin,  because of  Almir Cehajic, known across Bosnia by his nickname, Batko -- \u003cbr/\u003eBatko's talk show has raised money for many critically ill in Bosnia -- not just baby Ajsa. It's generated 30 million euros so far, the equivalent of more than 40 million dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eBatko's broadcasts generate emotion as well as hard cash, through the Open network of dozens of radio stations and two TV outlets. Some who've gotten help turned out to celebrate his 49th birthday, including Hanan Vehab, now 9. He'd needed cancer treatment...\u003cbr/\u003eThe talk show began after Cehajic lost his own daughter because he couldn't pay for her heart surgery. Now he asks Bosnians to donate to help tens of thousands of others, including 8-year-old Meliha Muratovic, who desperately needs a lung and heart transplant.\u003cbr/\u003eWhat many find striking is that his appeals not only generate huge amounts of cash. They cut across ethnic and religious lines in a country still torn by animosity stirred up in the Balkan wars of the 1990s.\u003cbr/\u003eThey found it touching when the Serb from Pale boarded a bus to Sarajevo to bring money for Muslim baby Ajsa. \u003cbr/\u003eBut can the show -- which also airs in Serbia and Croatia -- heal the region politically as it pushes medical treatment for the sick? There's no way of knowing, but it has become a bridge, connecting former bitter enemies that otherwise still can't get along. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd in the meantime there are hopes that Mediha can be saved. The girl -- who's favorite color is pink and favorite word is 'beautiful' -- travels to Austria later in October to see if surgery is possible for her. \u003cbr/\u003eShe's got no doubts about the
