Americans waited to hear whether he would raise interest rates.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter lowering interest rates last fall to protect the U-S economy from global financial turmoil, the Federal Reserve is now ready to raise rates to cool an economy it considers to be growing too rapidly for its own good, private economists believe.\u003cbr/\u003eAnalysts think there is little doubt today's regularly scheduled meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, the panel that sets interest rates, will end with an announcement of a rate increase, based on recent remarks by Greenspan.\u003cbr/\u003eAlan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve Board in the United States, arrived Wednesday for a meeting with his Federal Reserve Board.\u003cbr/\u003eThere's little doubt that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates.\u003cbr/\u003eMany analysts say the expected quarter-point increase isn't significant enough to affect consumers dramatically.\u003cbr/\u003eThey say some home buyers might delay their purchase, anticipating lower rates later this year.\u003cbr/\u003eFed critics charge that it's being too hasty to consider raising rates now with only a fragile global recovery underway.\u003cbr/\u003eIn New York Stocks moved lower on Wednesday as traders awaited the Federal Reserve's official word on interest rates.\u003cbr/\u003eTraders were eagerly awaiting the announcement, hoping for an end to the volatile price swings and sluggish trading that has characterized the market since the Fed first displayed in May its willingness to raise rates in an effort to
