Wide of people in front of Superdome \u003cbr/\u003eChaotic scenes continued to be played out Friday in the devastated US city of New Orleans, despite the arrival of the National Guard and much needed supplies of food and water.\u003cbr/\u003eFour days after Hurricane Katrina struck, the National Guard arrived churning through the floodwaters in a vast truck convoy with orders to retake the streets and bring relief to the suffering.\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of thousands of people are still without homes, food, jobs and money.\u003cbr/\u003eCrowds, seeking to escape the city, amassed both in front of the city''s Convention Centre and the beleaguered Superdome sports stadium.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice continue to arrest looters in an effort to crack down on the spiralling violence on the streets.\u003cbr/\u003eEven in the Convention Centre, where overspill crowds from the Superdome gathered, bodies continued to litter the ground.\u003cbr/\u003eOne frustrated refugee, Denise Roche, described unbearable conditions inside the New Orleans convention centre. \u003cbr/\u003e\"They are not moving the bodies, it is the smell of dead bodies inside. It is an awful situation to have to live in.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSome of the thousands of storm victims awaiting their deliverance applauded, screaming, \"Thank you, Jesus!\" as the camouflage-green trucks and hundreds of soldiers arrived. \u003cbr/\u003eThe hurricane that drowned New Orleans and other parts of the Gulf Coast is posing an unprecedented test for communities throughout the entire south.\u003cbr/\u003eThe military said its first priority was delivering food and water, after which it would begin evacuating people - something that could take days.\u003cbr/\u003eNational Guardsmen carrying rifles and wearing camouflage gear also arrived outside the Louisiana Superdome, walking in a long line past a vast crowd of bedraggled people fanning themselves miserably in the heat.\u003cbr/\u003eOne Army officer estimated that about four to five thousand people remained in the Superdome waiting for evacuation.\u003cbr/\u003eOther reports put the figure at 8,000 to 10,000.\u003cbr/\u003eThe conditions in the Superdome remained miserable even as the crowds shrank after buses ferried thousands to Houston a day earlier.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile the evacuation resumed Friday, the press of people on the bridge outside the arena was just as great as before.\u003cbr/\u003eThe arrival of the thousands of soldiers came amid blistering complaints from the mayor and
