Students go on to perform in clubs, state fairs, traveling circuses or show intermissions after completing the one week course.  (April 14)\u003cbr/\u003e [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]  \u003cbr/\u003e ((New York)) \u003cbr/\u003e            ((VO of people eating fire)) \u003cbr/\u003e            It's not your usual school. \u003cbr/\u003e            And this isn't your usual curriculum. \u003cbr/\u003e            But then again, this is Coney Island. \u003cbr/\u003e            And this is a school for sideshow performers. \u003cbr/\u003e            Among the skills here - breathing fire. \u003cbr/\u003e            This young student is having trouble - the roof of her mouth is scorched from practicing the stunt. \u003cbr/\u003e            \"NATS: how do you fix that? Well you just need to heal.\"  \u003cbr/\u003e            The idea is to light your tongue on fire with one torch, hold the flame in your mouth, and then pass the fire to another torch. \u003cbr/\u003e            NATS: you're going to need to open your moth and hold the flame\" \u003cbr/\u003e            After a while, this student learns the lesson. \u003cbr/\u003e            NATS: cool! \u003cbr/\u003e            The instructor here is a fellow by the name of Donny Vomit. \u003cbr/\u003e            \"It's a family name.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThis Circus Sideshow School has been training students in a one week course since 2002, and is the only school of its kind in the country.  \u003cbr/\u003e((Donny Vomit, Circus Sideshow Instructor)) \u003cbr/\u003e \"These acts are amazing and entertaining, but people are so bogged down with special effects and television effects nowadays TAKE VO it's getting lost in the mix, it's a form of entertainment that's becoming endangered. \u003cbr/\u003eNATS: gag!      \u003cbr/\u003e((VO of woman putting balloon in nose and pulling it out her mouth)) \u003cbr/\u003eOne of the important lessons pupils here learn is how to put things down their throat - and not throw up. \u003cbr/\u003e((Heather Holliday, Circus Sideshow Instructor)) \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's constantly gagging yourself is how you're going to overcome your gag reflex. TAKE VO \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's like a part of your body that's not touched and gets uncomfortable, just like how your palms aren't ticklish 'cause you touch everything but your armpits are, you know, it's the same, same logic.\" \u003cbr/\u003eHeather Holliday has taught herself to swallow two swords at a time. \u003cbr/\u003e((Alexa Rast, Sideshow Student) \u003cbr/\u003e\"You're pushing yourself to do something that is very different, very strange, your body is doing something that appears impossible to a lot of people and uh, being a  part of something that strange and wonderful is important to me.\" \u003cbr/\u003eAlexa Rast, is a performance artist from Connecticut. \u003cbr/\u003eHere she's learning one of the staple sideshow acts. \u003cbr/\u003eShe lies on a bed of nails. \u003cbr/\u003e            A cinder block is placed on her stomach. \u003cbr/\u003e            And then … \u003cbr/\u003e            When Rast gets up, she's no worse for the wear - just a few marks on her back. \u003cbr/\u003e            \"All the energy is being dispersed out to the block, as opposed to the person on the bed of nails, it's when it doesn't break, is when it's going to hurt.\" \u003cbr/\u003e            The class is held every April, but there are performances all summer at the Coney Island Circus Sideshow.   \u003cbr/\u003e             Students go on to perform in clubs,
