Politics here can be physically exhausting and hard on the vocal cords.\u003cbr/\u003eHard-line mullah Maulana Fazlur Rehman represents a conservative Islamic party.\u003cbr/\u003eHis rallies - and his politics - are a far cry from the line adopted by movie star Mussarat Shaheen.\u003cbr/\u003eHer political rallies are explosive in more ways than one.\u003cbr/\u003eWhole villages will turn out in force to see her, but more to gawk at the movie star than to hear her message.\u003cbr/\u003eShe promises them drinking water, health care and better roads, all inshallah - God willing.\u003cbr/\u003eShaheen's hometown is Dera Ismail Khan, an agricultural centre in the conservative and desperately poor region of north-western Pakistan.\u003cbr/\u003eRoads can be non-existent, and women are never seen in public without their faces covered.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is this region that has produced the strangest election duel of all in Pakistan - the mullah versus the movie star.\u003cbr/\u003eMussarat Shaheen is a household name in Pakistan.  She stars in more than 300 films in which she is famous more for her racy gyratory dancing than her acting skills.\u003cbr/\u003eBut today she sports a more austere image.  Gone are the tight sequin dresses.\u003cbr/\u003eIn an attempt to be taken seriously she has donned a white dupatta, or head scarf, a trademark of ousted Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd she is taking on the mullahs, accusing them of tricking the people in the name of Islam.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE:(Urdu)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Mullahs and tribalism are the politics of Pakistan.  They are the ideologies.  because of this good people can't be the force in the elections.  Mullahs get votes because of tribal and family loyalties.  Mullahs carry the Koran to people's homes and ask people to vote as Moslems in the name of the Koran.  All over Pakistan and even in our region it is accepted to vote in the name of the Koran.  But once these leaders are elected they do not respect the Koran.  They cheat us in its name.
