(condemn the attack) And I think I have  to resist that temptation. I don't seek for one moment to justify what happened. My  thoughts are with the families which have been bereaved or which have hurt as a result  of this. But we have had 25 years of selective denunciation and selective condemnation.  It was only when we got beyond that, that when we actually started talked, that we  created the opportunity which all of us enjoyed for the last 18 months.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Gerry Adams, Sinn Fein President\u003cbr/\u003eAcross the border in Northern Ireland, Protestant hard-liner Reverend Ian Paisley  demanded a security crackdown and called for I-R-A suspects to be imprisoned without  trial.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the early 1970s.
