Ramirez leaving room\u003cbr/\u003eColombia's Defense Minister Martha Lucia Ramirez arrived in Washington DC on Tuesday on a visit designed to strengthen US support for Colombia's fight against terrorism.\u003cbr/\u003eRamirez cited Friday's bomb attack at the El Nogal club in Bogota as the reason for increased efforts against Colombia's terrorists. \u003cbr/\u003eThe bombing was the first major attack in Bogota in more than 10 years, shocking residents accustomed to a war fought mostly in rural areas. More than eight hundred people were at the El Nogal Club while a devastating car bomb blew the building to pieces, leaving forty dead and hundreds injured.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This attack was done with sophisticated technology, we know it comes through strategic alliances that they've had with other groups\" said the Minister as well referring to possibilities of international rebel groups such as ETA and IRA supporting the attack \"this is what we are investigating right now with British and Spanish experts as well as American agencies,\" she added.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Minister also linked Colombia's continuing violence and conflict with drug trafficking saying \"Every time a person consumes cocaine, what he or she is doing is feeding Colombia's conflict\" \u003cbr/\u003eRamirez arrived in Washington DC for meetings this week with Defense Secretary, Donald H. Rumsfeld, National Security Director, Condoleeza Rice, CIA director, A.B. Krongard, and John Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.\u003cbr/\u003eColombia's war, now in its fourth decade, sees the 18,000-strong FARC and other leftist rebels pitted against the government and paramilitary groups.
