install a post-Taliban government.\u003cbr/\u003eWith no government in Afghanistan for the past week, the United Nations wants the disparate Afghan factions to quickly convene at a neutral site to create the interim government.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Monday, Franscesc Vendrell, the deputy to the UN envoy to Afghanistan, met Northern Alliance leaders in the capital, Kabul.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Alliance, led by former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani, sent troops and police into Kabul immediately after the Taliban movement fled on November 13 and is therefore in the strongest bargaining position.\u003cbr/\u003eAs the UN tries to speedily fill the political void left by the fall of the Taliban in the north of the country, it is also trying to step up its humanitarian efforts.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Tuesday, UN spokesman Eric Falt said the World Food Programme had sufficient food inside the country but warned supplies could not reach all of the Afghans who need food aid
