Mid of giant wrapped box hanging from ceiling\u003cbr/\u003eIn the year that the UK hosted the 2012 Olympics games and celebrated Queen Elizabeth II's diamond jubilee, it's no surprise that a sense of ' Britishness' is one of the key trends dominating this season's Christmas designs.\u003cbr/\u003eRustic and nostalgic decorations are in abundance at London's Spirit of Christmas Fair.\u003cbr/\u003eChristmas 2012 is all about well crafted products with a vintage feel and natural colours and materials - according to organisers here. \u003cbr/\u003eWhereas in the past the festive seasons have been dominated by themes of \"red and gold\" or \"black and white,\" this year retailers hope that \"Britishness,\" following Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee and the London Olympics, will turn buying habits towards traditional and nostalgic items. \u003cbr/\u003eEvent organiser, Stuart Hunter, says a lot of retailers are using natural materials at this year's event, as well as a resurgence of products from the UK:\u003cbr/\u003e\"A lot more British made products coming back to the fair which is very refreshing, we always endorse that and we try to encourage that where we can and certainly our visitors like to see that,\" he says.  \u003cbr/\u003eAround 700 boutique and artisan retailers are vying for a piece of the lucrative UK Christmas market at the fair. \u003cbr/\u003eExhibitor stands are bursting with sparking lights and elaborate glassware decorations.\u003cbr/\u003eAlso in high demand are products for keeping the cold weather at bay -  faux fur hats and scarves are plentiful as are heavy coats and footwear. \u003cbr/\u003eThe majority of retailers, however, have focused on small gifts, trinkets and decorations, with the in vogue \"homespun\" and \"vintage\" styles in abundance. \u003cbr/\u003ePatchwork bunting, hand-painted pottery and pastel coloured homeware also dominate the displays.  \u003cbr/\u003eIntricate vintage style decorations likewise appear fashionable and arrays of multi-coloured sparkling baubles are inevitably popular with the crowds. \u003cbr/\u003eSusan Wilson, owner of \"Artifactually\" glassware, and a stall holder at this year's show, says she has noticed that people are buying only one or two special items instead of a whole collection of cheaper decorations and gifts. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I think it's probably a little distasteful to have all this disposable, buying a hundred new ornaments that you just change out every year. So I think people are becoming a little more budget conscious obviously and returning to how it used to be, traditional, just one or two special ornaments in our case as opposed to recreating a whole new tree.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSusan believes Christmas trees could be marketed like green charm bracelets and says she wants her hand blown glass decorations  to become  treasured heirlooms for customers. \u003cbr/\u003eManaging Editor, Julia Page, from House and Garden magazine, one of the fair's partners, agrees that shoppers at the event are staying away from coloured themes and mass produced decorations this year. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says that in times of economic uncertainty people want to buy well-made products that last with traditional materials and designs remaining popular with the event's visitors. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I think there's a move away from the very glitzy, matchy-matchy, have your whole Christmas decoration theme with one colour, whether it's all silver and gold or black and white.
