She wore this dress to her first son's wedding...and she saved it all these years convinced that I would be able to wear it some time))\u003cbr/\u003e Michelle Salamon sewed together her prom dress as part of a senior year home economics class project. \u003cbr/\u003e     She wore the white, floor-length number on that big night in 1990, and on Friday, the dress _ rescued from the closet in which it's languished for years _ made its triumphant return to the prom. \u003cbr/\u003e     \"It's a little snug,\" Salamon said, laughing. \"I just zipped it up, and it fits!\" \u003cbr/\u003e     The 38-year-old teacher's assistant at a special needs school in Wyandotte was one of close to 140 mostly Michigan moms who turned the clock back 20, 30, or in some cases, more, years in an annual get-together they affectionately call the Mom Prom. \u003cbr/\u003e     Now in its sixth year, the ladies-only event invites attendees to don their old prom and bridesmaid _ even wedding _ dresses for a night of dancing, drinking and togetherness with proceeds going to charity. \u003cbr/\u003e     \"That's why we have prom,\" organizer Betsy Crapps told the cheering group in between songs on Friday. \"We're changing the world, ladies, one prom at a time.\" \u003cbr/\u003e     The Mom Prom, fittingly, owes its origin in part to Crapps' own mother, whose decision to tidy up her home led her to drop off a bunch of old stuff at her daughter's house, including the pink, pouffy dress Crapps wore to the senior prom. \u003cbr/\u003e     Crapps thought it would be funny to show up to an Academy Awards party at a friend's home wearing the two-decade-old gown. The Oscar soiree was such a hit that Crapps decided to invite a bunch of pals to put their dated, tacky dresses to good use and go out for a night of dinner and dancing designed to raise money for charity. \u003cbr/\u003e     Eleven friends took her up on that offer, and off they went to Buca di Beppo, where they earned more than a few puzzled looks. \u003cbr/\u003e     A local newspaper columnist caught wind of the do-gooding get-together with the crazy get-ups, and Crapps found herself inundated with calls from women interested in joining the next such charity-minded retro-party. \u003cbr/\u003e     A year later, in 2007, Crapps moved the Mom Prom to the gym at her parish, St. Thomas a'Becket Catholic Church in Canton Township. Eighty women paid $10 a pop to attend, and Crapps dropped off a check for $820 at an area homeless shelter. \u003cbr/\u003e     The event has since grown in attendance and ambition. \u003cbr/\u003e     Crapps, a 41-year-old mother of three who is the assistant director of faith formation at St. Thomas a'Becket, says her dream is to see Mom Proms held across the U.S. on the same date. She wants to call it National Mom Prom Night. \u003cbr/\u003e     Crapps already has had some luck spreading the word beyond Michigan. \u003cbr/\u003e     Women who consulted with Crapps held a Mom Prom in Seattle last year, and one is scheduled for Middletown, N.Y., in April. She's also heard from moms in Indiana, Illinois and Pennsylvania about putting on their own events in the future. \u003cbr/\u003e     And Crapps will attend a Mom Prom her sister, Katie Long, is organizing next year in New Hampshire. \u003cbr/\u003e     Long, 32, was at the Michigan bash on Friday, gathering ideas for her Mom Prom in Nashua. \u003cbr/\u003e     It's a great night, in part, Long said, because \"you're not worried about your husband not wanting to dance or about how you look. \u003cbr/\u003e     \"It's cool to be ugly,\" said Long, whose attire Friday night was chosen by her niece. \u003cbr/\u003e     Long, unsure of what to wear, tried on three dresses _ one she purchased at J.C. Penney for $1.97 (coupons were used); another was her older sister's Scarlett O'Hara-inspired teal dress that dates back to 1987; and the eventual winner was an '80's style, rose-colored number with a shimmery, gold metallic leaf pattern that she bought on eBay. \u003cbr/\u003e     Other prom-goers' sartorial selections came with a deeper meaning. \u003cbr/\u003e     Angela Leto had on a yellow-orange-and-green, flowery, knee-length dress her grandmother wore to the wedding of Leto's uncle in 1964. \u003cbr/\u003e     Leto's grandmother predicted before she died that her granddaughter would wear the dress someday. Leto, an engineer for Verizon Wireless, shrugged off the idea at the time, but still accepted the dress. \u003cbr/\u003e     \"And here I am,\" the 41-year-old from Milford said, smiling, holding a picture of her grandmother wearing it. \u003cbr/\u003e     Ellie Wallace, who was crowned queen of the Mom Prom, had on an aqua-colored dress her late mother wore to Wallace's wedding in 1991. \u003cbr/\u003e     \"I really miss her,\" said the 46-year-old from Canton, who works in advertising and danced the night away to songs such as AC/DC's \"You Shook Me All Night Long\" and \"Livin' on a Prayer\" by Bon Jovi. \u003cbr/\u003e     While nostalgia, camaraderie and a good time brought these ladies to the Mom Prom, the charity aspect also was a powerful draw. \u003cbr/\u003e     Past recipients of Mom Prom cash include the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and First Step, a group that aims to reduce incidences of domestic and sexual violence. \u003cbr/\u003e     This year's proceeds will benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the HHT Foundation, which works toward finding a cure for the genetic disorder that causes abnormalities of blood vessels. \u003cbr/\u003e     Jody Nissan, who has several family members with HHT, took to the mic to offer a tearful \"thank you\" to the Mom Prom's attendees and was rewarded with an equally emotional response. \u003cbr/\u003e     It's that togetherness that makes the event so special, says five-time Mom Prommer Katy Cleveland, a 35-year-old mother of two from Canton. \u003cbr/\u003e     \"Moms are always
