are relentlessly crushing rebel targets in the besieged town, but appear to be making little progress in wiping out Chechen resistance.\u003cbr/\u003eChechen guerrillas remain defiant, six months after the conflict began.\u003cbr/\u003eShell after shell, bomb after bomb, rocket after rocket.\u003cbr/\u003eSix months of Russian fury has rained down on Chechnya, and shows no sign of abating.\u003cbr/\u003eWithin the last 24 hours, Russia's military claims to have flown seventy combat missions over Chechnya's southern mountains, where thousands of Chechen rebels fled to more than a month ago after the fall of the capital Grozny.\u003cbr/\u003eKomsomolskoye is in the foothills about two and a half miles west of the strategic Argun gorge.\u003cbr/\u003eJets swooped over the town in tandem at 10-minute intervals, launching missiles at suspected guerrilla bases on the southern edge of the village, and the surrounding gorge.\u003cbr/\u003eTanks and howitzers joined the attack, as Komsomolskoye's one thousand residents stood herded in a field on the outskirts of the village.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring three days of round-the-clock shelling - all they could do was watch.\u003cbr/\u003eAlmost all of their houses have been destroyed - from the vantage point of a neighbouring village, just one three-storey brick building can be seen standing at the town's northern edge.\u003cbr/\u003eRussia is desperate to wipe out the rebels in the mountains before spring, when melting snow and blooming foliage will make it easier for the fighters to travel and take cover.\u003cbr/\u003eThe war in Chechnya began last September after Islamic rebels were blamed for attacking the neighbouring republic of Dagestan.\u003cbr/\u003eMoscow also blames the dissidents for
