And then they melted the material, and because there were no container walls, they were able to solidify the material and measure the thermo-physical properties.\" \u003cbr/\u003eBack on Earth, equipped with the data from space, the CalTech team was able to produce bulk quantities of \"liquid metal\" - an alloy mix of three or more metals with characteristics similar to plastic, that has more than twice the strength of titanium.  \u003cbr/\u003eProducts using liquid metal withstand scratching, wear and corrosion - and redefines metals for the 21st century.\u003cbr/\u003e\"By understanding the thermo-physical properties of this particular alloy, they are able to get it to solidify on the ground in an amorphous, or random molecular state.
