Early nineties, mid-nineties, right up to Isabella's untimely death in 2007, her collection really, really is a great marker for each different change in fashion,\" says Shonagh Marshall, Exhibition co-curator.\u003cbr/\u003eBlow's thirty year fashion career began in the early 80s when she worked as an assistant at US Vogue, but it was on her return to London in 1986 and her work with Tatler, followed by British Vogue, that she established herself as a legendary figure within the international fashion and contemporary art worlds.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough Blow is often considered eccentric, witty and flamboyant, Marshall says she hopes this exhibition will give greater insight into her character: \"People, I hope anyway, people will walk away from the exhibition thinking what an incredible woman Isabella Blow was. I always think of her as a character from a book, she was sort of old fashioned yet really modern at the same time, often coined as eccentric but I somehow don't think so.\"\u003cbr/\u003eTaking centre-stage at the exhibition are a number of pieces made by designers discovered by Blow during her fashion career.\u003cbr/\u003eBlow first met British designer Alexander McQueen at his graduate fashion show in 1992, and famously bought his entire collection. \u003cbr/\u003eShe commissioned headdresses for her wedding from Philip Treacy when he was still a student and wore both designers work everywhere, using her extensive network to promote them.\u003cbr/\u003eTreacy eventually went on to work for Chanel, becoming Britain's best-known milliner, while McQueen achieved international acclaim until he, like Blow, lost his battle with depression and took his own life in 2010.\u003cbr/\u003eBlow's influence would continue long after her death and in this collection - created by McQueen and Treacy in 2008 - the designers invoked both Blow's legacy and importance to the fashion world.\u003cbr/\u003eExhibition curator, Alistair O'Neill, says one of the special things about this exhibition is the response shown by designers Blow worked with: \"Her most famous protï¿½gï¿½s where Alexander McQueen, obviously, and also the hat designer Philip Treacy. But she touched the lives of many designers and a really significant part of this project has been getting in contact with the designers and asking them to come in and have a look at items in the wardrobe designed by them and work with our conservation team to restore them for the exhibition. The kind of love and respect that these designers have shown towards Isabella's memory and to this exhibition has been really profound.\"\u003cbr/\u003eUndoubtedly the most prominent feature of this exhibition are the multitude of striking hats worn by Blow.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fashion stylist used to say that often her bizarre headgear was used as armour to protect herself and hide her face from the world.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite her desire to hide away, O'Neill says she made a lasting impact on the world of fashion:\u003cbr/\u003e\"Her legacy is that late 20th century British fashion was very enriched by her.
