It was in  response to overwhelming scientific evidence that low-altitude wind shear had caused a  number of disastrous air-carrier accidents.\u003cbr/\u003eThe T-D-W-R system is an advanced breed of radar designed to rapidly detect wind  shear, microbursts (the most dangerous form of wind shear), rapid wind shifts and  precipitation intensities.  The radar  immediately provides this information to air traffic  controllers.\u003cbr/\u003eWith Terminal Doppler Radar you are able to monitor what's going on the runways as  well as the approach corridor and the departure corridor.  So we provide much more  information to air traffic controllers then the low level windshear alert system.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Bob Meyer, Raytheon Company  \u003cbr/\u003eWhile airline passengers may never be accident free, the Terminal Doppler Radar is a  welcomed safety net for the airline industry and those who fly in it.\u003cbr/\u003ePassengers expect that they 're gonna be protected by FAA, the congress and the  airlines when they're out there flying.
