holiday, marks the day when communist founder Mao Zedong declared the establishment of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.\u003cbr/\u003ePeople dressed in traditional minority costumes, Olympic athletes and entertainment stars witnessed the flag-raising, sang the national anthem and chanted pro-China slogans.\u003cbr/\u003eSecurity was tight around Tiananmen Square and thousands of choreographed ceremony filmed by state television.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Thursday, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called on communists to root out rampant corruption as they prepared to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the revolution that brought them to power.\u003cbr/\u003eWen's comments came days after the party publicly warned that its hold on power could be in danger if members did not pay attention to public needs.\u003cbr/\u003eThis year's celebration comes two weeks after the ruling party sealed Chinese President Hu Jintao's ascension as China's new leader, naming him to replace
