(Oct. 16)\u003cbr/\u003e [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]  \u003cbr/\u003eLabeled by some basketball experts as the female version of LeBron James...Elena Della Donne (\"el-LAY-na DELLA don\") came out of high school as the most highly prized female player in the country. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd after starring at Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware... the former national player of the year was on her way to even GREATER  prominence.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 6-foot-5 guard enrolled at U-Conn.... one of the nation's premiere women's basketball powerhouses -- owners of SIX national championships. \u003cbr/\u003eSo in the summer of 2008, Della Donne showed up in Storrs, Connecticut....stayed a short time....(pause)......and turned around and left. \u003cbr/\u003e(pause)\u003cbr/\u003eFor good.\u003cbr/\u003e(pause)\u003cbr/\u003eAt the time...Della Donne thought she was burned out on basketball.\u003cbr/\u003eBut more than a year later, the20-year old -- who'd never spent more than a week away from her family -- says she was simply homesick.\u003cbr/\u003eSOT: Elena Della Donne / Left Univ. of Connecticut\u003cbr/\u003eThat's because Lizzie Delle Donne.... Elena's older sister..... is blind.....deaf..... and has cerebral palsy. \u003cbr/\u003eHaving spent her whole life around her...it was difficult for Elena to leave for any period of time. \u003cbr/\u003eBut now she doesn't have to -- having enrolled at the University of Delaware.... which is about 20 minutes from home.\u003cbr/\u003eSOT: Della Donne \u003cbr/\u003eSOT: Tina Martin / University of Delaware \u003cbr/\u003eAfter a sports detour of sorts, this year she's back on the basketball court -- bursting with enthusiam. \u003cbr/\u003eYou see, during her freshman year, Delle Donne took a sabattical from hoops.... and spent the season playing... volleyball.\u003cbr/\u003eBut that proved just to be a temporary diversion.\u003cbr/\u003eSOT: Della Donne SOT \u003cbr/\u003eBut it did take a little while for Delle Donne to get comfortable with the idea of playing hoops again.
