Also there was a young girl that was up on the roof: up on the chimney, sitting on one of the aircraft seats.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Maxwell Kerr, resident\u003cbr/\u003eMemories of the tragedy lie all around. \u003cbr/\u003eHere, in the shadow of a children's playground, is Park Place. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's another little road made famous by disaster. \u003cbr/\u003eDavid Ben Aryeah, a local journalist who has become the unofficial historian of the Lockerbie affair, remembers a group of American students whose journey ended on this spot.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE:  (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Just behind me was where the fuselage fell, the rear fuselage, it fell between two rows of houses missing them by feet. More importantly, inside the fuselage, the rear fuselage were 21 young men and women from Syracuse university, they had come to this country to live and work and study and play together, tragically here they died together.\"\u003cbr/\u003eCAPTION: David Ben Aryeah, Lockerbie historian\u003cbr/\u003eOn one of the roads leading out of Lockerbie, there is a cemetery that has become a focal point of mourning for the victims of the disaster.\u003cbr/\u003eA huge granite block lists all of the people who died in the air and on the ground. \u003cbr/\u003eIndividual plaques point to the private grief behind the most public of tragedies. \u003cbr/\u003eThe dates of birth may differ, but the date of death is the same in every case. \u003cbr/\u003eEven today, almost ten years on, the Lockerbie memorial continues to draw a constant stream of visitors.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"We travel by air a lot and we just feel so moved by coming here today. It's just such a beautiful place and such a waste a life. Families just completely wiped out for no gain whatsoever. I think for many of them, certainly for some of them the pressure was too great.  It just got too much.
