Various of sketches from appeal trial showing all the appellates and close ups of Alfred Sirven and Roland Dumas\u003cbr/\u003eA French appeals court on Wednesday overturned former Foreign Minster Roland Dumas' conviction in a corruption case that has riveted France.\u003cbr/\u003eDumas was convicted in May 2001 of receiving lavish gifts and cash from the former state-owned oil company Elf Aquitaine while serving as foreign minister.\u003cbr/\u003eDumas appealed, and the Paris appeals court on Wednesday overturned his conviction. He had been sentenced to two-and-a-half years imprisonment. Two years of the sentence were suspended.\u003cbr/\u003eThe court, however, upheld convictions for other defendants in the case.\u003cbr/\u003eFormer Elf President Loik Le Floch-Prigent was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment.\u003cbr/\u003eAlfred Sirven, a former second-in-command at the company, was sentenced to three years imprisonment.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth men were convicted of misuse of company funds.\u003cbr/\u003eDumas' ex-mistress, Christine Deviers-Joncour, a former model, received a 30-month jail term. Twelve months of the sentence were suspended.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Elf affair, as it is called in France, linked politicians and business leaders to a multimillion dollar kickback scheme in which company slush funds were used to buy influence in France and abroad.\u003cbr/\u003eThe scandal focused on Dumas, a former Resistance fighter who rose through the political ranks to join the inner circle of the late Socialist President Francois Mitterrand.\u003cbr/\u003eProsecutors said Dumas' ex-mistress, Deviers-Joncour, was hired by Elf to serve as a liaison with the Foreign Ministry in order to
