Various people on street\u003cbr/\u003eThe use of very thin female models in the fashion industry has provoked debate amongst retailers and fashion houses around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eSeveral countries have since banned the use of models who are deemed to be too thin from taking part in fashion shows.\u003cbr/\u003eOne British department store has responded to the debate saying they will use diverse sized models in their Summer 2007 advertising campaign.\u003cbr/\u003eThe campaign against the use of skinny models and the so-called 'size zero' debate has highlighted the use of ultra-thin female models in the fashion industry.\u003cbr/\u003eOrganisers of Spanish Fashion Week announced in September last year their decision to ban some models from taking to the Madrid catwalks because of their weight - those below a predetermined body mass to height ratio were not able to take part in the shows.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cause has since been taken up by a number of fashion houses and retailers. \u003cbr/\u003eOne department store in the UK, John Lewis, has responded to the debate saying they will use a size 12 (UK) model in their Summer 2007 swimwear advertising campaign instead of size 10 (UK) as usual.\u003cbr/\u003eThe model they have chosen for the campaign is South African Lauren Moller.\u003cbr/\u003eMost models used in UK advertising are a size 8 (UK).\u003cbr/\u003eJohn Lewis spokesman Mark Forsyth says he thinks Lauren better represents their customers.\u003cbr/\u003eForsyth adds he thinks using different types of people in ad campaigns is very important.\u003cbr/\u003eOne product that has successfully used models of different ages, sizes and ethnicities is Dove.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir latest campaign is for skin products aimed at women over 50 years of age but uses a diverse size of models.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of their models is Mirinette Morrison. She says she thinks models should represent the size and shape of real women.\u003cbr/\u003eThe debate has been a hot topic and many people have their opinions on the use of diverse sized models.\u003cbr/\u003eMany agree that having diversity in advertising is important.\u003cbr/\u003eJohn Lewis is not stopping at real people however, they are extending their use of larger models to
