Tilt up of girl squatting with barre\u003cbr/\u003eThese days people expect more from their work-out routine than plain jogging in the park.\u003cbr/\u003eFitness trends are constantly changing - and now it's the world of ballet that's inspiring people to get fit.\u003cbr/\u003eIt might not look like Swan Lake, but these fitness fans are hoping that going to the barre will leave them toned like classical dancers. \u003cbr/\u003eBallet has become an increasingly popular fitness trend, so much so that it's being dubbed the new yoga in LA.\u003cbr/\u003e350 calories are burned an hour practicing ballet.\u003cbr/\u003eClasses with names such as power ballet, barre assets and pure barre help increase muscular strength, stamina and flexibility.\u003cbr/\u003eMany find it especially helpful as a morning routine because it means less pounding than running. \u003cbr/\u003eWendy Johnson, former ballet dancer and member of the North American Teachers Association is a world class dance adjudicator around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says that it's all about grace, that \"people need to learn to have grace with how they walk down the street. Whenever you see a dancer, there is always an air about them that's special and I think ballet is great for that.\" \u003cbr/\u003eBallet lengthens the spine while stretching the muscles more than other fitness classes. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's considered a fast and safe way to burn fat and change the shape of the body.\u003cbr/\u003eChanges include flat abs, sculpted backs, thin thighs and toned arms. \u003cbr/\u003eAt Pure Barre in Brentwood, California, by comparison, this very popular 55-minute fitness class is done to upbeat music. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's not classical ballet but rather a fusion of dance, Pilates, the ballet barre and weights to create an intense workout.\u003cbr/\u003eStudents go through several different yoga, pilates, weight lifting and stretching exercises. \u003cbr/\u003eYoga mats and weights are used.\u003cbr/\u003eOwner and professional dancer, Marni Chaikin, says ballet has become a hot fitness trend right now because it's a safe and effective way for someone to see results quickly.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says \"it's very intense and therefore you will see results.
