Tilt down ground zero \u003cbr/\u003eOfficials have bowed to a request from families of those killed in the September 11th terrorist attacks to leave most of the land where the World Trade Centre once stood undeveloped. \u003cbr/\u003eThe latest blueprints to redevelop the WTC were released on Wednesday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe design will still feature a 1,776ft construction, the world's tallest building, in defiance of the terrorists who demolished the towers two years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eBut developers say the footprints of the twin towers will be considered \"hallowed ground\".\u003cbr/\u003eTracks of a transit system, named Path, will still run through the footprint of the south tower but families are unopposed to this because the system was there before the September 11 attack.\u003cbr/\u003eThe remains of many of those killed when two airliners slammed into the towers were never recovered, and families have been campaigning for months to keep the area in downtown Manhattan sacred.\u003cbr/\u003ePort Authority Executive Director Joseph Seymour said the move was an important one.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen asked how much bedrock would be preserved on the site, Daniel Libeskind, the projects architect said the size would be determined by the structure of the final memorial.\u003cbr/\u003eFamily members held a press conference at ground zero following the LMDC announcement. \u003cbr/\u003eThe families described the new plans as a step in the right direction, but that there were still \"grey areas\" that needed to be pinned down.\u003cbr/\u003eSome want the entire \"bathtub\" - the name given to the wider area of the World Trade Centre pit - to be preserved.\u003cbr/\u003eNew York's Governor, George Pataki, who has been heavily criticized by the families for not sticking to his word to preserve the footprints, said there was never any question over whether the footprint would be built
