No. Every corner, everywhere there is jokes. And there is something happening everywhere. So, the people are so interested in these things that they love it,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eSometimes the restaurant resembles a ride at an amusement park.\u003cbr/\u003eChairs start swirling by themselves, lights blink and music stat playing and from the ceiling oversized pieces of fake excrement falls down on the customer below.\u003cbr/\u003eAnthony Boddam-Whetham, visiting from London, UK, describes the scene:\u003cbr/\u003e\"About 30 seconds ago the ceiling dropped down. The ceiling is made out of large poos and they dropped down. People behind me are sitting on coffins. Most of the drinks come in, sort of, toilet receptacles. The whole theme is toilet based. So yeah - it is an odd place to be,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003eThe restaurant is located just off the trendy shopping street Kurfurstendamm in West Berlin.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is a popular attraction with tourists, many of them from the UK and Scandinavia according to Finke.\u003cbr/\u003eDave Pearson, visiting from Nottingham, UK, read about the restaurant on the internet and decided to visit.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I've never been to a toilet themed restaurant before. I've never head of one and this is the first one I've been to. It is quite interesting so far. Everyone seems to be eating and drinking out of toilet things, like toilet bowls and getting drinks in interesting ways. Things are jumping out on us and squirting at us. It is certainly an interesting place to be,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003eFine dining it is not. \u003cbr/\u003eThe menu is a typical West Berlin bar menu with cheap meat based dishes. \u003cbr/\u003eA plate with sausages and cold potato salad will set you back 8.50 euro (11.6usd), a meat stew 4.90 euro (6.7 usd), and onion bread with cheese and cold meat 7.90 euro (10.80usd). \u003cbr/\u003eThere is no vegetarian option available but five pages of different beers and cocktails. \u003cbr/\u003ePer Meurling is a food blogger and the founder of \"Berlin Food Stories\" one of the most visited Berlin food critic sites written in English. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says the food served at 'Das Klo' was very typical of West German restaurants in the 1970s. \u003cbr/\u003eBack then, as a divided city, Berlin was a dark spot on the culinary food map. \u003cbr/\u003eThis is still - to a certain degree - true according to Meurling\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is really true. The Berlin food scene is certainly undeveloped in comparison to Paris, London and New York. This is mostly due to its history. The history of closed borders, division and high levels of uncertainty.\" \u003cbr/\u003eBerlin was a divided city from 1961 to 1989 when a wall divided West Berlin, belonging to West Germany, from the surrounding East Germany. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Meurling this division did not only hamper the development of the food scene, it also led to peculiarities like themed restaurants such as 'das Klo.' \u003cbr/\u003eIt was simply a part of the particular West Berlin humour. \u003cbr/\u003eSince the fall of the wall the food scene in Berlin has developed. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the 2014 Michelin stars guide Berlin received 4 new stars, bringing the city up to 19 stars in 14 establishments. \u003cbr/\u003eThis made Berlin the city in Germany with the most amount of stars, but far below other capitals like Paris and London. \u003cbr/\u003eNeedless to say, 'Das Klo' is not represented in the Michelin guide. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd if you are after a purely culinary experience, places like this are not on the gourmet's must-do guide according to Meurling:\u003cbr/\u003e\"From a sheer culinary standpoint you could probably skip them. It comes down to, if you want to have a good meal, and always going by my motto which is 'life is to short for a bad meal.' There are probably no examples of those restaurants that are worth a visit.
