So how do we create a building in south west London, which tries to recreate that environment? So the first thing was to try and create a form which induced some of those requirements.  As you can see the building has got quite a bit of height to it, now what that does as we all know hot air rises, and we have the stack effect.  And as you can see we have got either side of the house we've got grilles so that air can just come in and obviously during a hot day the air that comes in will just get drawn out of the building because of the stack effect.\"\u003cbr/\u003e9. Exterior of glasshouse\u003cbr/\u003eA glass house that keeps plants cool and dry may seem like an unusual idea.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the recently unveiled alpine house at the world famous Kew gardens in South West London, hopes to keep its delicate flowers in exactly those conditions, mimicking life on alpine slopes.  \u003cbr/\u003eLondon's Kew Gardens and staff are hard at work preparing for spring.\u003cbr/\u003eKew is famous for its flower beds, trees, fountains, and glasshouses.\u003cbr/\u003eThere's the world famous Palm House, the Princess of Wales desert house, and now there is a new member of the Kew glasshouse family -- the Davies alpine glasshouse.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is the first glasshouse to be built in Kew in the past twenty years and uses the latest design technology.\u003cbr/\u003eGeoff Turner is one of the architects behind the concept, he says they were given a fairly detailed brief to ensure the delicate alpine plants could grow happily in London.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"So the key criteria is as much light as possible, as much air movement as possible and shelter and not to overheat.
