what happened. \u003cbr/\u003eThe relatives, most of them from the small town of Jaguey Grande in Matanzas province 150 kilometers east of the capital Havana, made the appeal after weeks of confusing and conflicting accounts of what happened to their children. \u003cbr/\u003eThe missing, aged between 20 and 29 years old, attempted their sea crossing to the United States on the night of April 12, leaving from a point close to Cardenas, on Cuba's northern coast. \u003cbr/\u003eA single survivor later said the raft went down in waters close to Cuba's best known beach resort,Varadero.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough the survivor reached the safety of a deserted lighthouse to get help, two days went by before he was rescued and could raise the alarm. \u003cbr/\u003eReynal Perez, 51, father of two of the eight victims - Alin, 27, and Reynol, 29 - criticized the authorities' handling of the case since April as incompetent and ill informed.\u003cbr/\u003eThere has been no official statement on the fate of the eight young men and relatives have appealed for coast guards to mount a search of the area for any clues as to what happened.\u003cbr/\u003eSome still hold out
