In New York City and the suburbs, police provided extra coverage at theaters where the \"Dark Knight\" was playing. \u003cbr/\u003e The New York City Police Department was posting officers at about 40 theaters around the city that are showing the Batman film. The increased security was a precaution against potential copy-cat shooters, and also meant to reassure moviegoers.\u003cbr/\u003e At the AMC theater in Times Square, two New York City Police Department officers were stationed outside the entrance during the morning. But there were no other security measures taken by the theater, according to employees. \u003cbr/\u003e \"It's just really an unfortunate experience. It's supposed to be a really exciting time to go and see this movie. Everybody is waiting for it, it's really anticipated,\" said Jimmie Baker, 40, of Harlem, who had been waiting since about 9:45 a.m. for the 12:50 p.m. showing of the \"Dark Knight.\" \u003cbr/\u003e At least 12 people were killed and dozens of others were injured during a midnight showing of the Batman movie in Aurora, Colo., where a gunman wearing a gas mask hurled a gas canister into a crowded theater and then opened fire. It is one of the deadliest mass shootings in recent U.S. history. \u003cbr/\u003e Some movie patrons, like Andrew Bross, said it was important not to let the shooting interfere with everyday life.
