Various, Supermodel Naomi Campbell on catwalk\u003cbr/\u003eSupermodel Naomi Campbell was charged with assault for throwing her cell phone at a housekeeper after accusing her of stealing clothes when she couldn't find a pair of jeans she wanted to wear to an appearance on Oprah Winfrey's television show, prosecutors said.\u003cbr/\u003eShe was released on bail and allowed to keep her passport after her lawyer argued that her famous face would prevent her from fleeing.\u003cbr/\u003eCampbell, wearing a white fur poncho, was arraigned before Judge Richard Weinberg, who allowed her defence lawyer David Breitbart to enter a plea of not guilty on her behalf.\u003cbr/\u003eAs she left the courthouse, she labelled the incident as \"another extortion\" attempt.\u003cbr/\u003eThe housekeeper was treated at a hospital for a cut that required four staples, said Assistant District Attorney Elina Kreditor, who asked the judge to set bail at $3,500 and to order Campbell, who is British, to surrender her passport.\u003cbr/\u003eBreitbart called the request for $3,500 bail \"an insult\" and said his client needed her passport for a trip to South Africa next week to visit Nelson Mandela. \u003cbr/\u003eHe asked the judge for orders to keep the housekeeper away from Campbell's Park Avenue apartment.\u003cbr/\u003eThe judge said the housekeeper, Ana Scolavino, would have to give up her key to the apartment and issued an order of protection against Campbell, telling her she could have no contact with the employee. He scheduled her next court appearance for June 27.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier on Thursday, Campbell smiled for the cameras as she left a Manhattan police station, bound for the Criminal Court.\u003cbr/\u003eScores of photographers, reporters and film crews gathered to record her exit after she was charged with assault; she responded by flashing a quick smile and said \"I'm fine, the police have been really nice and it won't be the first time I've been extorted.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn a statement, a Campbell spokesman said the supermodel was not responsible for any assault.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We believe this is a case of retaliation, because Naomi had fired her housekeeper earlier this morning,\" said the statement from J.R. Johnson. \"We are confident the courts will see it the same way.\"\u003cbr/\u003eCampbell has been accused of violence before.\u003cbr/\u003eIn August 2004, in the same apartment, Campbell and her maid had a fight, and the maid Millicent Burton claimed the supermodel slapped her across the face. \u003cbr/\u003eCampbell accused Burton of instigating the fight.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 2003 she was sued by a former administrative assistant who said Campbell had thrown a phone at her during a tantrum two years earlier.\u003cbr/\u003eCampbell was discovered at age 15 and launched a career that landed her in magazines worldwide. \u003cbr/\u003eThe mercurial Campbell has a reputation for angry outbursts and abusive behaviour. She pleaded guilty in Toronto to an assault charge for beating another assistant while making a film in Canada in 1998.\u003cbr/\u003eShe also battled a cocaine addiction before getting straight
