Food and Agriculture Organization says the main problem with agricultural biotechnology to date is that it hasn't spread fast enough to the world's poor farmers and has focused on crops that are mostly of use to big commercial interests.\u003cbr/\u003eThe report \"Agricultural Biotechnology: Meeting the Needs of the Poor?\" is likely to fuel the debate about genetically modified, or transgenic crops, at a time when the technology continues to face public opposition in some European and African countries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe organization has said in the past that genetically modified foods on the market are safe to eat and that genetic engineering has potential to help the developing world. The report is FAO's most comprehensive look at the subject to date.\u003cbr/\u003eThe FAO expects the world's population to grow to eight (b) billion by 2030 and said food production must increase by 60 percent to feed the world. The agency said biotechnology can help meet that demand, but warned it was no panacea for world hunger.\u003cbr/\u003eFurther, FAO concluded that poor farmers have seen little benefit so far because
