Various of Yohame Banda, father, with children and adults from local village\u003cbr/\u003eMadonna and her husband took custody of a motherless 1-year-old boy from Malawi on Thursday after filing adoption papers and receiving interim approval from a judge in the impoverished southern African nation.\u003cbr/\u003eAssistant High Court Register Thomson Ligowe confirmed Judge Andrew Nyirenda had  been granted an \"interim order of custody\" allowing the pop star and her film director husband Guy Ritchie to take David. \u003cbr/\u003eDavid's father, Yohame Banda, said he was happy for his son and pleased with the celebrity couple who want to be his parents.\u003cbr/\u003eMadonna has made no comment to reporters since her arrival in this impoverished country earlier this month, though she\u003cbr/\u003ehas made several public appearances in support of projects she supports here to care for AIDS orphans. \u003cbr/\u003eHer publicist, Liz Rosenberg, in an e-mailed statement on Wednesday said she was \"unable to make any official statement at this time\" on the adoption reports.\u003cbr/\u003ePenston Kilimbe, director of child welfare services in the Ministry of Gender, Child Welfare and Community Services,\u003cbr/\u003ehad confirmed that Madonna and Ritchie filed adoption papers before a judge at the Lilongwe High Court.\u003cbr/\u003eKilimbe pointed out the couple had followed the normal processes, the processes had been going on for some time, and that filing the papers was the completion point.\u003cbr/\u003eKen Manda, senior court registrar, said documents filed by Madonna and Ritchie were confidential and would not be made available to reporters.\u003cbr/\u003eMalawi law does not allow for inter-country adoptions, and generally requires people who want to adopt to spend 18\u003cbr/\u003emonths being evaluated by Malawian child welfare workers.\u003cbr/\u003eMalawian officials had indicated earlier such restrictions would be waived for Madonna and Ritchie, but refused to\u003cbr/\u003eelaborate on Thursday.\u003cbr/\u003eBanda, the father, said on Thursday he met Madonna and Ritchie at the court as part of the formalities. \u003cbr/\u003eWhile they talked, Madonna, who has two children, carried the baby boy, Banda said.\u003cbr/\u003eBanda thought Madonna and Ritchie were a lovely couple, and described how they had asked him many questions.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the couple seemed happy with David, and that he was happy for his son.\u003cbr/\u003eDavids father said Madonna had promised him that as the child grows she will bring him back to visit.\u003cbr/\u003eMadonna and Ritchie have a son, Rocco, 5, and the singer also has a daughter, Lourdes, 9.\u003cbr/\u003eMadonna arrived in Malawi Oct. 4 on a mission to helps AIDS orphans and amid rumours that she was to adopt a child.\u003cbr/\u003eMadonna's charity Raising Malawi is setting up an orphan care centre to provide food, education and shelter for up\u003cbr/\u003eto 4,000 children. It will have projects based on Kabbalah, Judaism's mystical sect, which counts the 48-year-old\u003cbr/\u003esinger among its devotees.\u003cbr/\u003eMalawi is among the poorest countries in the world, with rampant disease and hunger, aggravated by periodic droughts\u003cbr/\u003eand crop failure. \u003cbr/\u003eSome 14 percent of its 12 million people are infected with HIV, the virus that
