Close shot of sign \"STANFORD CRICKET GROUNDS\"\u003cbr/\u003eAntigua's Prime Minister and Finance Minister tried on Sunday to give a message a tranquillity to the nation's citizens and the Bank of Antigua's investors. \u003cbr/\u003eWhile Finance Minister Errol Cort said that he felt the situation was beginning to be under control, the Prime Minister of Antigua added that the measures undertaken by the Eastern Caribbean Bank would hopefully calm the investors.\u003cbr/\u003eCaribbean regulators took control this past week of an Antiguan bank owned by Texas billionaire R. Allen Stanford to prevent its collapse.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the monetary authority for eight island economies in the region, said the Bank of Antigua's board of directors requested the intervention because of the \"untenable situation\" at its three branches in the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda.\u003cbr/\u003eThe US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has accused Stanford of running an 8 (b) billion US dollar financial fraud scheme. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Central Bank governor did not disclose how much money had been pulled from the bank since Tuesday (Feb 17th) , when US authorities announced civil fraud charges against Stanford but warned that the bank could face liquidity problems. \u003cbr/\u003eAll during the past week depositors rushed to pull their money after the American financier was accused of fraud.\u003cbr/\u003eSeparately, Antigua's Financial Services Regulatory Commission, which regulates offshore banking, appointed a British firm, Vantis Business Recovery Services, as a receiver of Stanford International Bank and Stanford Trust Company.\u003cbr/\u003eThe SEC filed a civil lawsuit this week against Stanford, two of his colleagues, his Antigua-based Stanford International Bank and two related entities.\u003cbr/\u003eA federal district court judge in Dallas gave the receiver power to seize assets and records of Stanford and his companies and two of his lieutenants.\u003cbr/\u003eThe receiver said on Friday that he had ordered a halt to all sales of certificates of deposit by Stanford companies.\u003cbr/\u003eHe warned investors would not be able to access to their cash or transfer funds out of their accounts \"for the foreseeable future\".  \u003cbr/\u003eStanford, 58, is a larger-than-life figure in the Caribbean, using his personal fortune, estimated at 2.2 (b) billion by Forbes magazine, to bankroll public works and cricket tournaments.\u003cbr/\u003eMost famously, he shook up the staid world of professional cricket last year by bankrolling the purse in a  20 (m) million US dollar winner-take-all match between England and the West Indies.\u003cbr/\u003eThe England and Wales Cricket Board have since distanced themselves further from Stanford by terminating contracts with him.\u003cbr/\u003eHe also is a major player in US politics, personally donating nearly a (m) million dollars, mostly to Democrats. \u003cbr/\u003eHe owns a home in the US Virgin Islands, and operates businesses from Houston to Miami and Switzerland to Antigua, where he holds citizenship
