General Russel Honore), Admiral Keating who is in charge of North Com (North Communications) and General Honore who is acting duty general on the ground, and Mike Brown who is head of FEMA. There is a lot of aid surging toward those who have been affected - millions of gallons of water, millions of tons of food - making progress in pulling people out of Superdome. There is an issue right now at the convention centre in New Orleans that General Honore briefed us on, trying to get food and water to the convention centre... working with the Governor and the Mayor to deploy the 600 newly arrived MPs (military police) to secure the site so that the food and medicine and water can get in there. A lot of people working hard to help those who have been affected and I want to thank the people for their efforts. The results are not acceptable. I am headed down there right now and I''m looking forward to talking to the people on the ground. I want to assure the people of the affected areas and this country that we will deploy the assets necessary to get the situation under control and get the help to the people who have been affected and that we are beginning long term planning to help those who have been displaced, as well as long term planning to rebuild the communities that have been affected.
