It's what it represents and what it allows you to do, which is really to lead a fulfilling life. To lead a life in which you are economically secure and one in which you look towards the future with a lot of hope and optimism,\" says Mark Rank, a professor at Washington University in St. Louis, who calculated the numbers on affluent Americans for a forthcoming book, \"Chasing the American Dream\" by Oxford Press. He notes that the new rich is much more diverse than the static \"1 percent\" portrayed in Occupy Wall Street protests. \u003cbr/\u003e\"America has always been the land of opportunity and I think it will continue to do just that.,\" said Atlanta realtor Mary Lou Lanaux, who earns between $150,000 and $250,000 a year. \"We will be in a position to be a country like we've always been that has opportunity _ for all of us.\"  Lanaux said it has taken her four years to get back to this level of income after the housing bust in 2008.\u003cbr/\u003eThe new rich are spread across the U.S. mostly in bigger cities. They include Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Miami, which ranks second to New York in income inequality, developers are betting on a growing luxury market.
