It was mostly about the custody of Suri. Katie made sure she got sole custody with some visitation rights from Tom, bodyguards and nannies have to be present at all times. So she really wasn't worried about getting the $15 million that she's reportedly getting out of this. She just wanted her daughter.\"\u003cbr/\u003eNew York attorney Bettina Hindin, who specializes in matrimonial law says just because the pair have reached an agreement on their breakup doesn't mean their divorced yet.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They won't be divorced until all the appropriate papers are filed. Then those papers which are about a stack high go from the clerk's office to the judges desk and the judge will sign them so typically in New York our turnaround is 2 to 3 months. If you need it quicker you can petition the court to have it done quicker for example if someone is nine months pregnant and wants to get married or someone is on their death bed but typically it takes a few months before the judge puts his signature on the judgement for divorce and then it has to be stamped, entered by the county clerk and that's when they're divorced.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe announcement Monday (9 July 2012) that Holmes and Cruise had settled their divorce in less than two weeks ended what many expected to be a contentious breakup spanning both coasts.\u003cbr/\u003eDetails of the agreement remain confidential and the pair released a joint statement indicating they intend to keep it that way.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents,\" their statement said.\u003cbr/\u003eHindin says from a legal perspective it was very surprising by how quickly the case was settled.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was a very, very quick settlement. One wonders whether or not this was all a setup to begin with, but knowing the attorneys who negotiated it, they're good attorneys. They apparently worked very, very hard over the weekend and this was something that Tom wanted to, again, brush under the carpet. I think his religion had a lot to do with it and he really didn't want to have that be exposed anymore or be out there for ridicule anymore.
