The clans are expected to battle for control of the seaport capital and its airport as soon as the UN force leaves. Some of Mogadishu's worst fighting of the month began after militia followers of faction leader Mohamed Farah Aideed set up a roadblock outside the airport gates and denied entry to anyone. At least one mortar bomb hit the airport runway and bullets flew over the heads of American, Italian and UN troops camped at the UN-controlled facility. US officers said the\u003cbr/\u003eshooting did not appear to be directed at foreign troops.
