pieces of the Japanese cuisine. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's run of the mill for Melanie Burliet who's earning $100 dollars an hour from the craze. \u003cbr/\u003eWhen you enter Ambassador Wine and Spirits in New York City and ask for the sake class, you know instantly that something is different about this place.  \u003cbr/\u003eBecause what you've found is a half naked woman lying on a table covered in sushi. \u003cbr/\u003eThe naked sushi models come from an almost completely abandoned Japanese tradition called Nyotaimori.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen translated it literally means: woman, body, decoration.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was practiced by the Yakuza who are famous for their full body tattoos and mafia ties. \u003cbr/\u003eBut no mobsters are at the table for this recent class. \u003cbr/\u003eThere are two salesmen and one dentist. \u003cbr/\u003eThe model, Melanie Burliet, says the experience is worth having, after you get past the initial nervousness. \u003cbr/\u003eShe's paid 100 dollars per hour to stay completely still as people eat off of her body. \u003cbr/\u003eBurliet took the job in the hope of writing a first hand account of what it's like to be a naked sushi model. \u003cbr/\u003eShe hopes to then pitch it to a magazine.\u003cbr/\u003eBurliet says the hardest thing is ignoring the odd itch and trying to keep still.\u003cbr/\u003eThe class happening around her provides clients with information about the brewing processes, the regional flavours, the subtlety of ingredients and classification of sake. \u003cbr/\u003eThe customers have a taste as they listen. \u003cbr/\u003eEstablished in the 1970's by Isabelle Phillips and her son Alan, Ambassador is now run by Leonard Phillips. \u003cbr/\u003eThe staff have their area of expertise in wine and spirits, and the sake class includes sushi as a bonus. \u003cbr/\u003eBurliet says she can hardly contain her curiosity to know what people are eating, because she cannot see them or the food. \u003cbr/\u003eNot surprisingly, interest and attendance in the saki class has gone up significantly since the introduction of the models.\u003cbr/\u003eParag Patel is a returning customer. \u003cbr/\u003eThis is the third time he's gone to the class. \u003cbr/\u003eHe appreciates that the models are hairless, but says once people get over the wow factor, they keep coming back for the quality of the food. \u003cbr/\u003eUnder Leonard's guidance, Ambassador has transformed from a neighbourhood favourite to a world-class wine emporium in a short four years. \u003cbr/\u003eOne could say it is due to his creative marketing techniques.\u003cbr/\u003eLeonard says people often cannot believe he displays naked models, or that it's even legal.\u003cbr/\u003eBut he has a quick explanation. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's art.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the models don't always find it that exciting. \u003cbr/\u003eThere is a history of models falling asleep on the table and starting to snore - in fact Burliet says she sometimes struggles to stay awake while laying so still.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's understandable - the sake class lasts two hours. \u003cbr/\u003eKeyword
