Mid of Bush during meeting\u003cbr/\u003eUnited States President George W Bush on Monday, stepped up pressure on Congress to approve a controversial free-trade pact with Colombia, saying the deal was \"dead\" unless US House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, scheduled a vote.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter a meeting with his Cabinet, Bush said it was not in America's interest to \"stiff an ally\" like Colombia.\u003cbr/\u003eBush sent the agreement to Congress earlier this month, but the House, led by Democrats, decided to eliminate a rule forcing a vote on the deal within 60 legislative days. \u003cbr/\u003eThe House's decision probably kills consideration of the Colombia agreement this year, leaving it for the next administration that takes office on January 20 when Bush steps down.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This free trade agreement is in our national interests,\" Bush said. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Yet that bill is dead unless the speaker schedules a definite vote. This was an unprecedented move.
