We sell a lot of fuel-efficient vehicles. The trick is to get consumers to want to buy them and so hopefully cooperating with government cooperating with environmental groups and cooperating with other non-governmental organizations- we can develop a new technology that takes us away from the era of petroleum in our vehicle flee.\"  \u003cbr/\u003e10. Various shots of Necar 5\u003cbr/\u003eDaimler Chrysler has entered the history books when it's cell-powered auto, the Necar 5, became the first alternative fuel vehicle to be driven across the United States.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cross-country trip was the first attempt ever to drive a fuel cell car for more than 3,000 miles.\u003cbr/\u003eFuel cells combine oxygen from the from the air and hydrogen from a fuel source to produce electricity, which can be used to power electric motors and drive automobiles.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Necar 5's journey started in San Fransisco, California, on May 20 and ended at the foot of the US Capitol building in Washington DC on June 3.\u003cbr/\u003eUpon arriving at the US Capitol, the Necar 5 team was welcomed by Senate Auto Caucus Chairman Carl Levin of Michigan and Senator George Voinovich of Ohio.\u003cbr/\u003eAlso at the ceremony was Senior Vice President of External Affairs at Daimler Chrysler, Rob Liberatore, who expressed his company's satisfaction with completing the cross-country trip.  \u003cbr/\u003eAlluding to the current debate about imposing requirements on the auto-manufacturers to sell more fuel-efficient vehicles, Liberatore said cooperation between auto companies, the government, environmental groups and non-governmental organizations was vital to reduce dependence on fossil
